292 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will make inquiries with RTE regarding the quality of transmission of Raidio na Gaeltachta in the Listowel area of County Kerry; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24511/99]
The issue raised by the Deputy is the day-to-day responsibility of the RTE authority and I have no statutory function in the matter.
However, in accordance with long-standing custom, I am prepared to furnish to the House information supplied by RTE in response to questions relating specifically to improvements in reception of RTE's national broadcasting services.
RTE states that the reception of Raidio na Gaeltachta in the Listowel area is marginal. RTE further states that as part of its network coverage improvement plan, it is currently negotiating with a third party to install a radio transmitter which will provide improved raidio coverage of Radio 1, 2FM, Raidio na Gaeltachta and Lyric FM in the Listowel area.
