Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Bird Sightings.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

293 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if the wildlife section of her Department has recorded any sightings of the nightjar which is found mainly in the south and east of England and in the Dungarvan Harbour area, County Waterford; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24561/99]

Nightjars are found in the south of Ireland, in Counties Wexford, Waterford, Tipperary and Cork and are not confined to the Dungarvan area of County Waterford. A maximum of two or three sightings are reported each year, although all sightings are not necessarily reported for reasons of confidentiality.
