Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Accidents.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

323 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of accidents involving cyclists in each of the past five years, including those killed and those injured; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24078/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that statistics in relation to the number of accidents involving cyclists in each of the past five years, including those killed and those injured are provided by the National Roads Authority, St Martins House, Waterloo Road, Dublin 4.

Details in relation to all road accidents reported to the Garda authorities are supplied by the gardai to the National Roads Authority, and a report on road accidents entitled "Road Accident Facts" is prepared and published by that authority. The most recent report, which is in respect of 1997, was published by that authority.

I understand that the 1998 report is due to be published shortly. In the circumstances, the Deputy will appreciate that I cannot supply the details requested.
