Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

335 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí deployed in Bray at 1 November 1999; the actual establishment; if there is a shortfall; if so, the plans, if any he has to address this shortfall; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24451/99]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resources to an individual area is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that the personnel strength at Bray Garda station on 1 November 1999 was 73, all ranks. Comparative figures for 3 November 1997 were 72, all ranks, and for 3 December 1998 were 69, all ranks.

I am also informed that there are no actual establishment figures for station strengths. The personnel allocation at any particular station is determined by the strength of the Garda Síochána at any given time, priority vacancies throughout the country and other variables such as crime figures, demographic trends, geographical area and road traffic indicators etc.
