Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Foreshore Licences.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

113 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when a foreshore licence application by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be dealt with. [24403/99]

My Department received an application from the person in question on 10 November 1999 and copies of the application were immediately forwarded to the Department's specialist advisers and to Dúchas for its observations.

Subject to there being no objection in principle to the proposal, the applicant will be required, pursuant to section 19 of the Foreshore Act, 1933, to publish notice of the proposed development in newspapers circulating in the area. My Department will prepare the notice and specify the newspapers in which it should be published. A three week period is allowed for representations and objections to be made.

Should any objections or observations on the development be received arising from the public consultation process, the applicant will be allowed an opportunity to comment on these before a report and recommendation is made to me. That report will detail the proposal, the process that has been gone through, objections and commentary on them, and recommend whether to grant a lease or licence and, if so, under what conditions. That process normally takes a month or two to complete. I will then decide on the matter.

The Deputy will appreciate that foreshore licence applications have to be dealt with in date order and many other applications were received before the application in question. My Department will deal with that application as soon as possible.
