Vol. 511 No. 5

Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

40 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the submission made by an organisation (details supplied) for a development on the Dargle River in the Bray area; if so, the progress, if any, made with this proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24361/99]

I am advised by the Central Fisheries Board that the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board submitted a project proposal for funding for development works on the River Dargle under the Tourism Angling Measure, of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-1999.

Decisions regarding the funding of projects under the TAM is a matter for the TAM Manage ment Committee having regard to the criteria applicable to the measure and in light of the available funding. Day to day administration of the TAM is carried out by the TAM unit in the Central Fisheries Board.
The central board informs me that the TAM Management Committee approved funding in respect of one of the three elements of this proposal submitted by the eastern board subject to the tourism potential of the small stretch of river involved being assessed. The amount of funding involved was £6,600.
The central board further informs me that in February 1999 the eastern board confirmed that it did not wish to accept the funding of £6,600 for the reason that the element of the project which had been approved did not, on its own, constitute value for money.
