Vol. 511 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

69 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Finance when a person (details supplied) in County Kildare will be paid tax arrears; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24805/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer ceased employment on 12 August 1999. His claim for a refund of income tax was received in the tax office on 7 September 1999.

A cheque for the total tax paid, £592.81, was sent to the address entered on the taxpayer's claim form on 16 September 1999. The cheque was returned to the Office of the Collector General by An Post because the address was insufficient to enable the cheque to be delivered.

A duplicate claim form was received in the tax office on 18 October 1999. However, no immediate action was taken to deal with it as it was assumed that the taxpayer's refund had already been sent to him.
On 23 November 1999 the inspector of taxes instructed the collector general to re-issue the repayment cheque to the address as entered on the taxpayer duplicate claim form.
