Ceist:

289 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if the European Commission has threatened to take the Government to the European Court of Justice for infringement of EU law concerning specialist doctors' qualifications; if he has responded to EU concerns within a timeframe to avoid court action; and the discussions, if any, he has had with the Medical Council on this matter. Difficulties have arisen with processing a small number of technical amendments to the free movement directives relating to specialist qualifications. Officials of my Department have been in contact with the Medical Council and I am confident that these problems will be resolved very quickly.
