Vol. 511 No. 6

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

65 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when she will bring forward legislation to implement the recommendations of the High Level Group on Trade Union Recognition; the reason no commitment to introduce this legislation was included in the review of An Action Programme for the Millennium; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25022/99]

Since the report of the high level group was presented to Government, officials of my Department have had discussions with the social partners and the relevant industrial relations and development agencies regarding the implementation of the group's recommendations. Work on the legislative proposals is proceeding and consultations are currently taking place with the Attorney General's office.

The items contained in the review of An Action Programme for the Millennium is not intended to be an exhaustive list of Government activity and the issue of implementing the recommendations from the high level group was not included as I hope to be in a position to bring proposals to Government shortly and to publish a draft Bill as soon as possible thereafter.
