Vol. 511 No. 6

Written Answers. - Employment Action Plan.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

82 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of people placed in employment since the commencement of the employment action plan; the number of people who have remained in this employment since their placement; the number of people who have become unemployed since taking up a job under the plan; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25044/99]

From September 1998 to the end of September 1999 a total of 22,047 people have been referred by the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs to FÁS under the employment action plan. Of these, 13,302 have been interviewed by FÁS, 6,924 did not attend for interview, 1,032 are clients of the local employment services and 789 are awaiting interview by FÁS. Of the 13,302 interviewed by FÁS, 5,721 have been placed in employment, 2,673 have been placed in training and 812 have been placed in education.

With regard to the number who have remained in employment since their placement and the number who have become unemployed since taking up a job under the plan, this information is not available under the current operation of the plan. The Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs and FÁS are currently running an exercise to determine the numbers who have remained in employment and the numbers who have become unemployed since taking up a job under the plan. The results of this exercise should be available from that Department in the near future.
