Vol. 512 No. 5

Written Answers. - Farm Retirement Scheme.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

81 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the circumstances, if any, under the farm retirement scheme whereby a young person inheriting the farm can have Teagasc training requirements waived or reduced. [26549/99]

Under the terms and conditions of the scheme of early retirement from farming, a farming transferee born after 1 January 1968 must have been engaged in farming for at least three years. He or she must also have satisfactorily completed a course of training in agriculture or horticulture of at least 150 hours' duration, or alternatively have obtained the Teagasc certificate in farming or an equivalent or higher qualification.

The scheme makes no provision for this requirement to be waived or reduced.
