Vol. 512 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dairy Produce.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

76 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the degree to which overseas markets for dairy produce have increased or expanded in the past two years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26539/99]

Irish dairy exports have increased by 10.7% overall from 1996 to 1998. This results mainly from an increase in product going to other EU member states. Export figures for third country markets show a slight decline over the period in question. This decline is largely attributable to economic difficulties in some overseas markets, notably Russia, South-east Asia and Latin America.
