Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - Údarás na Gaeltachta Grants.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

326 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if Údarás na Gaeltachta has received back any of the £48,376 in grants or the £688,300 share investment from a company (details supplied) in County Mayo; if so, the amount received; and if the five employees received a redundancy package from the company or the State. [26734/99]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 483 of 2 November 1999.

I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that as investments in the company were made as needed to meet estimated requirements, there was not a surplus on the appointment of a liquidator which would have allowed for a distribution to the shareholder; the developed site of the business in the Mayo Gaeltacht is in the possession of an tÚdarás and a project for which the site would be suitable is being discussed by an tÚdarás at present; a repayment of £13,221 of grant made in 1994 resulted in the total final grant payment of £48,376; and since the employees referred to left at different stages, a situation did not arise where a redundancy pack age was arranged. No redundancy payments were due to any employee at the liquidation stage.
