Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

165 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if a request for funding has been submitted by Mayo County Council to deal with the coastal erosion problem at Rinroe, Carrowtigue, Ballina, County Mayo; and, if so, when funding will be sanctioned. [1332/00]

Funding under my Department's coast protection programme is directed primarily to projects which are identified by local authorities as being of high priority in terms of the need for protection. Rinroe, Carrowtigue, has not been included among the priority areas for protection put to my Department by Mayo County Council. Any proposals which the local authority may wish to put forward in respect of that area will, however, be considered carefully, in the context of the overall priorities for coast protection and the funding available for such works.
