Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.
I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to permit an explanation by the Government as to why the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland felt justified in releasing vague information about radon levels in unspecified schools which put the fear of God in parents in many counties who believed, rightly or wrongly, that their schools had radon levels 13 times higher than the safety limit. Would the Government care to give an explanation to allay their fears?
There is a long-standing tradition in the House that one does not go beyond the question submitted. Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
