Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - OSCE Meeting.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Ceist:

191 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the Government or any of its predecessors have asked that a meeting of the OSCE be held in Ireland; if so, if it will be held; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1926/00]

The question of hosting a suitable OSCE meeting in Ireland is constantly kept under review. However, Ireland's commitments in other international organisations such as the European Union, the United Nations and the Council of Europe must also be taken into account. For this reason, Ireland has not sought to date to host an OSCE meeting in Ireland. The Government would of course give serious consideration to hosting an appropriate OSCE meeting should a suitable occasion arise.
