Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Extensification Premium.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

286 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the amendments, if any, made to EU Commission regulations relating to the eligibility of applications for extensification for farmers who lease slatted house or parts thereof to other farmers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1610/00]

The question of how animals which are sent by one farmer to another for maintenance in a feed lot should be counted for stocking density purposes while they are in the feed lot has been referred to the European Commission by my Department for decision. The problem has already been discussed at beef management committee level. No definite opinion has yet been given.

The question of who is entitled to the slaughter premium when animals have been maintained in a feed lot by one farmer for another farmer for two months before slaughter has also been raised with the European Commission. I am pressing for an early decision on both matters.
