Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

287 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he has received an application from a person (details supplied) in County Cork for additional milk quota from the milk quota tribunal; if a further application needs to be submitted; and if the applicant is eligible for the 5 million gallons to be distributed among small quota holders. [1611/00]

I understand that the person in question submitted an application for additional quota from the milk quota appeals tribunal. His case was considered at a meeting of the tribunal on 22 November 1999 but it was not among those for which an allocation was recommended. The person named has been notified of the outcome of his application. The tribunal is not in a position to re-examine this case during the current milk quota year but he may apply again when application forms become available for the 2000/2001 milk quota year. These application forms will be available from milk purchasers and from the milk policy division of my Department after 1 April 2000.

From the information available in my Department it would appear that the person named will not qualify for an allocation under the scheme for the allocation of five million gallons to younger dairy farmers as his permanent quota at 31 March 1999 exceeded 35,000 gallons.
