371 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, he has to undertake flood relief work in view of the widespread flooding caused by the River Erne in County Cavan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2005/00]
Almost all of the Erne catchment comprises the Erne drainage district and the joint drainage district of Loughs Oughter, Gowna and the River Erne, the maintenance for which rests with the respective local authorities. However, my office is in the process of carrying out an inspection of parts of the River Erne, arising from complaints received from a number of landowners in the County Cavan area in relation to flooding. It is expected that the results of the investigation will be available by the end of Feb ruary when they will be considered in consultation with the relevant local authorities.
