Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

377 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 110 of 13 October 1999 in relation to an application for a hearing aid on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Cork, he will give his views on the information provided by the Southern Health Board in this regard. [1136/00]

The provision of hearing tests to eligible persons in County Cork is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board. Appointments for hearing tests are carried out on behalf of the Southern Health Board by the National Rehabilitation Board – NRB. I understand from the Southern Health Board that the person referred to in the Deputy's question is to be called for an appointment for a hearing test by the NRB during the last week of February 2000. The NRB is not at present in a position to provide an exact date for the appointment but I understand that the NRB will notify the person concerned a week before the appointment. Should the person require a hearing aid, a fitting will be organised after the hearing test.
