Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Board Funding.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

468 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the service plans approved by him for each of the eight health boards; the financial sums sought under each heading by each health board; and the moneys allocated. [1800/00]

The Deputy will be aware that under section 5 of the 1996 accountability legislation, the Minister is required to notify a determination of non-capital expenditure to the health boards 21 days after the publication by the Government of the Estimates for supply services for that financial year. The health boards under section 6(1) of the legislation are then required to prepare a service plan outlining the services which will be provided in the coming year, within 42 days of receipt of the letter of determination. The service plans must be within the determination notified by the Minister. It is the responsibility of the board members of each health board to approve the service plan before submitting it to the Minister. On receipt of the service plan the Minister may, under section 6(6) of this legislation, within 21 days ask the board members to modify the service plan.

The Department has now received all of the health board service plans and is in the process of meeting with health board management teams in relation to their service plans.

Moneys allocated to the health boards for 2000 are set out in the table below. These allocations represent a significant increase on the 1999 determination. This is an 18% increase over the 1999 revised base determination.
