Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Waste Management.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

529 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the borough councils or urban district councils which have submitted a waste management plan to his Department in accordance with the Waste Management Act, 1996, and regulations thereto; the councils which have not complied with the terms of the Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1331/00]

Section 22 of the Waste Management Act, 1996, requires each county council and county borough corporation to make a waste management plan in respect of its functional area. Borough corporations and urban district councils are not subject to such planning obligations, but are required to have regard to the provisions of a waste management plan made by the county council in whose functional area the borough or urban district is situated.

To date, waste management plans under the 1996 Act have been made by Dublin and Waterford corporations, and Cork, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal, Kildare, South Dublin, Tipperary – South Riding, – Waterford and Wexford county councils.
