Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

548 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding funding for the provision of the south Kildare water scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1673/00]

This scheme, estimated to cost £2.8 million, has been approved for funding under the rural towns and villages initiative. An advance section of the scheme, which will allow the Moone-Timolin-Ballitore Hill bypass to proceed, commenced this month. Contract documents for the main scheme were approved by my Department in July 1999, subject to the submission of additional information by Kildare County Council which is not yet to hand.

Ceist:

549 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding funding for the upgrading of sewerage facilities at Brownstown and Athgarvan, the Curragh, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1674/00]

The Brownstown sewerage scheme is on the list of projects submitted by Kildare County Council in response to my Department's request for local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis on the basis of the assessments. The council has not, however, indicated the priority to be accorded to the scheme.

Contract documents are awaited by my Department for the Athgarvan sewerage scheme which has been approved for Cohesion funding as part of the Upper Liffey Valley sewerage scheme.
