Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Environmental Legislation.

John Gormley

Ceist:

566 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the progress, if any, his Department has made in relation to the proposed Environmental Protection Agency Bill; the contents of the Bill; and when it will come before Dáil Éireann. [1792/00]

Work on the development of proposals to amend the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992, is proceeding in my Department and will be completed as soon as possible. The primary objective of the Bill will be to transpose into national law Council Directive 96/61/EC concerning integrated pollution prevention and control. This will entail extensive amendments in particular to Part IV of the 1992 Act, which provides the statutory basis for the integrated pollution control licensing system administered by EPA.
