Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

634 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the proposals, if any, she has to locate disciplines of the national academy for the performing arts in County Waterford; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1641/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 629, 633 and 634 together.

I have recently received a submission from the Dublin Institute of Technology relating to the proposed Academy for the Performing Arts, the establishment of which was recently announced.

It is the intention that a steering group will be established under the aegis of the Minister for Education and Science comprising the relevant Departments and various interests in the performing arts to implement the academy project. I will be referring the submission received from the Dublin Institute of Technology to this group. It will be open to all relevant bodies, including those in County Waterford, to make their case to the steering group when it commences work. The question of legislation, if required, will be a matter for the Minister for Education and Science.
