Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Physiotherapists Training School.

John Dennehy

Ceist:

723 Mr. Dennehy asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a submission from the Southern Health Board regarding the provision of a training school for physiotherapists and related disciplines in the Cork region; if so, his response; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1220/00]

The Southern Health Board wrote to my Department in April 1999 in connection with the resolution that had been passed by the board regarding the establishment of a training school for physiotherapy and related disciplines in the region. At that time the Southern Health Board was referred to the work of the expert group established pursuant to the Labour Court recommendation 15515 to address the education and training of certain paramedic grades, including physiotherapists.

The question of providing additional facilities for the education and training of physiotherapists will be considered in the light of the report of the expert group and the discussions between the health service employers and the colleges and professions involved. I understand that the report of the expert group is expected shortly.
