Vol. 513 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

109 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to a recent application for funding from an organisation (details supplied) to support its ongoing work with adopted people; and, if so, if he will give favourable consideration to this application. [2178/00]

As I have explained to the House on previous occasions, legislation is being prepared by my Department on adoption information, post-adoption contact and associated issues. As I intend to have the scheme of a Bill to Government as early as possible this year, it would be inappropriate of me to pre-empt the outcome of this legislation, particularly with regard to ongoing funding of administrative structures such as that outlined by the association referred to by the Deputy.

I have received a number of requests for once off funding from a wide range of organisations which are actively involved in the provision of support services in the complex area of adoption. These requests are being examined and I will be in contact with the organisations in question shortly.
