Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

141 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the tax measures at purchasing and selling ends must be put in place at the same time as the forthcoming quota management reforms if the latter is to be successful. [2779/00]

Ceist:

142 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to ensure that the relatively favourable tax treatment of milk quota sales be retained even after the land-quota link is broken in order to secure maximum supplies of milk quota in restructuring. [2783/00]

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

143 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Finance his views on whether securing adequate tax treatment of milk quota sales and purchases by quotas holders will be critical to the success of his forthcoming milk quota management reforms. [2784/00]

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

144 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Finance his views on whether his plans to break the land and quota link prohibit new lease arrangements and have active milk producers acquire quotas permanently require special tax measures to re-balance the relative cost effectiveness of purchasing quota versus leasing quota in favour of purchasing. [2785/00]

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

145 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Finance the action, if any, he has taken to secure a special tax treatment of milk quota purchases and sales as part of his forthcoming proposals to break the land quota link, prohibit new leases and have active producers acquire quota permanently. [2786/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 141 to 145, inclusive, together.

The tax rules relating to the purchase and sale of milk quotas are being examined in the context of the forthcoming Finance Bill.
