Vol. 513 No. 4

Written Answers. - Patients' Rights.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

170 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to introduce legislation to ensure the right of patients to access all treatments they require while providing for the right of conscientious objection by health care workers. [2696/00]

Following recent public debate and the inaccurate reporting of an incident in a particular hospital, my Department is considering the need, if any, for measures, in addition to those already in place, in regard to the issues raised.I am not aware that the right of conscientious objection of individual staff members represents an obstacle to the treatment of patients in our health care system.
