Vol. 513 No. 4

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

John Bruton

Ceist:

184 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will allocate funds to Meath County Council in order for it to carry out strengthening work to Cloncurry Bridge, Enfield, which is under a weight restriction and causing difficulties for local farmers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2708/00]

No application from Meath County Council for Cloncurry Bridge has been made to my Department under the specific improvement grants scheme for non-national roads; other projects have been prioritised by the county council for this purpose within its 2000 programme.

I have very recently announced non-national road grant allocations to local authorities of just under £264 million for the year 2000. Meath County Council has received an allocation for 2000 of £9.084 million, including discretionary improvement grants of £367,000. It is a matter for the county council to determine the particular works to be assisted from these discretionary grants.
