Vol. 513 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

187 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the Castledermot sewerage scheme; the starting date in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2824/00]

Kildare County Council appointed consultants to prepare contract documents for this scheme under the rural town and village initiative in October 1999. Work cannot commence until the contract documents have been submitted to my Department, approved and the tender process completed.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

188 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question Nos. 93 of 16 November 1999 and 581 of 26 January 2000, the developments, if any, which have occurred in regard to whether adequate water supply and water treatment facilities exist to meet current and projected requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2832/00]

The general position in relation to water services infrastructure is set out in the reply to Question No. 93 of 16 November 1999. As referred to in that reply I expect to publish the first water services investment programme under the new national development plan in the near future. A copy will be placed in the Oireachtas Library in the normal way. The national water study mentioned in the reply of 16 November is also nearing completion and the consultants' report is expected in the Department shortly.
