Vol. 513 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Strength.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

217 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the strength of the juvenile liaison service with particular reference to the personnel number in each Garda division; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2845/00]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and they inform me that there are 82 juvenile liaison officers plus one vacancy at present. In addition, there are six supervising sergeants in Dublin, one in Cork and one in Limerick.

The national juvenile office is staffed by a superintendent director, an inspector, two sergeants and three clerical officers. At present there is one vacancy for a clerical officer.

The Garda authorities further inform me that there are 36 juvenile liaison officers attached to various stations within the six divisions of the Dublin metropolitan region. Outside the Dublin metropolitan region there are 47 juvenile liaison officers, including one vacancy, attached to various divisions.

The following is a breakdown of all juvenile liaison officers within the Dublin metropolitan region and country:
