101 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the additional resources, if any, provided to a Garda division which has persons on a witness protection programme; his views on whether officers engaged in this protection work should be provided in addition to the existing Garda strength in the division; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The operational arrangements of the Garda witness security programme must, by their nature, remain absolutely confidential. While, in these circumstances, it would not be appropriate to divulge any information regarding the deployment of Garda resources in connection with the programme, I am advised by the Garda authorities that its resourcing has due regard to other demands on Garda resources.
