Vol. 514 No. 1

Written Answers. - Community Pharmacies.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

173 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children the amendments, if any, he has considered to the community pharmacy contractors agreement in S.I No. 152 of 1996; his views on whether the current regulations are too restrictive; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3628/00]

The Health (Community Pharmacy Contractor Agreement) Regulations, 1996 (S.I. No. 152 of 1996) specify the criteria and procedures under which the chief executive officer of the relevant health board shall determine the issue of new community pharmacy contractor agreements for the provision of community pharmacy services under the Health Act, 1970. I am satisfied that the regulations are required to promote a more even distribution of community pharmacies between urban and rural areas and to enhance the service available to patients. I will be making amendments to the regulations of a technical nature shortly.
