Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Burial Records.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

217 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will ensure that a thorough investigation is carried out between the health board and the former county health committees on the hospital and death records relating to St. Senan's Hospital, Enniscorthy, County Wexford, in order that persons who have deceased relatives buried in the unmarked graveyard at the hospital can obtain the maximum level of information. [4227/00]

I understand from the South Eastern Health Board that the board has been investigating this matter and that it has no record of any burials taking place in the graveyard in question in the last 40 to 50 years. The graveyard in question is owned and maintained by the South Eastern Health Board and the hospital authorities are continuing their efforts to determine who might have been buried there in the earlier part of the century. The board has suggested that the county council may have some records relating to the graveyard and the Deputy may wish to contact the council in this regard.
