Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ambulance Service.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

225 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the Midland Health Board has not taken steps to date to upgrade the ambulance service in Longford, Mullingar and Athlone to two person crews in spite of commitments given to have it fully implemented by September 2000; the recruitment, if any, undertaken in the past three months to provide the necessary trained personnel to meet this target; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4236/00]

The provision of ambulance services in Longford, Mullingar and Athlone is the statutory responsibility of the Midland Health Board in the first instance. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate this case and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
