Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rehabilitation Services.

Ulick Burke

Ceist:

234 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to provide a rehabilitation centre capable of providing physical and cognitive care for persons unable to gain access to the National Rehabilitation Centre, Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, and being retained in unsuitable nursing homes and institutions incapable of providing the necessary level of rehabilitation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4376/00]

I regard the continued development of rehabilitation services as an essential element of providing appropriate care for patients across a wide range of health services. I am committed to the further development of rehabilitation services and my Department will prepare a national strategy for the development of these services, taking into account the report of the national advisory committee on medical rehabilitation and the recommendations of the review group on health and personal social services for people with physical and sensory disabilities.
