Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

236 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Health and Children if he supports the necessary capital programme of the North Eastern Health Board particularly for the hospital services; when he will provide the necessary funds for the restructuring of Monaghan General Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4390/00]

The capital requirements for developments in the North Eastern Health Board are being considered in the context of the National Development Plan, 2000-06. I am aware of the North Eastern Health Board's major priorities for the development of acute hospital services, in line with the framework policy document adopted by the board. The policy approach set out in that framework has the support of my Department. In this regard, I am aware that a project team, with representation from my Department, has commenced work on preparing detailed proposals for the development of the Monaghan and Cavan sites of the Cavan-Monaghan hospital group. The exact level of funding involved will depend on the project team's proposals. I am committed to continuing to develop the Monaghan site in a way that ensures the best possible service for patients in the area.
