238 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps, if any, he has taken to develop sports medicine as a fully fledged medical specialty; and the discussions, if any, he has had with the Inter-College Academic Board of Sports and Exercise Medicine on the matter. [4410/00]

Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Martin):

The treatment of sports injuries and the practice of sports medicine normally involve different rather than any one specialty. However the designation of medical specialties is a matter for The Medical Council.
