Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Prison Committals.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

310 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding a person (details supplied) who received a jail sentence following the death of a person; if the person is still in the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4377/00]

The person referred to by the Deputy is in Mountjoy Prison. He is serving a five year sentence for manslaughter and is due for release with remission on 24 March 2001. His request for asylum was refused at first stage of application. An appeal hearing was heard on 5 November 1999. No decision has been made on this appeal yet.
