Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Aer Rianta.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

96 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the consultant or other reports, if any, regarding the review of strategic options for the future of Aer Rianta that have been commissioned by, or are available to, her Department to facilitate deliberations on the matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3904/00]

In August 1998 I requested the chairman of Aer Rianta, Noel Hanlon, to have the board undertake a fundamental review of the company.

The report on the company's future strategic direction submitted to me by Aer Rianta in April 1999 reviewed the trends, challenges and opportunities in the airports sector. It set out the current position of Aer Rianta and the reasons in the company's view changes are necessary.

A consortium of consultants comprising Warburg Dillon Read, SH&E and AIB were engaged jointly by myself and the Minister for Finance to give advice on the strategic options for the future development of Aer Rianta in the context of that report.

I submitted the Warburg Dillon Read report to my Cabinet colleagues at the Government meeting on 1 February and made it publicly available. I am now giving careful consideration to the findings and recommendations contained in that report with a view to formulating specific proposals for consideration by Government as soon as possible.
