Vol. 514 No. 6

Written Answers. - Museum Projects.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

189 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has for the renovations of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Kilmainham, Dublin 8; the timetable for this work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5122/00]

Renovation of the adjutant general's house is in progress and is expected to complete in spring 2001. This follows completion in November last year of a scheme of renovation and adaptation of the deputy master's house to provide additional usable space for IMMA.

In so far as the accommodation already occupied by IMMA is concerned, the following is the position. Re-decoration of the master's quarters has commenced and redecoration of the lecture room will commence shortly. It is envisaged that both areas will be completed in the summer. Renovation of the public toilet areas is expected to commence within the next few weeks and to complete in late summer. Renovation and upgrading of the great hall, chapel and kitchens is envisaged to start in the autumn and to complete at the end of this year. Carpets are to be provided in certain administrative areas during the year.

It is proposed to invite tenders for the resurfacing of the courtyard area towards the end of April with a view to completing the work by the end of the year.
