Vol. 514 No. 6

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

230 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to change the first-time buyers grant to include persons who for the first time are purchasing a house as a permanent home where the house is second-hand and where no grant has been paid to any previous owner; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4995/00]

The first-time buyers grant offers assistance to people who are first-time purchasers of new houses. I have no proposals to extend the grant to first-time purchasers of second-hand houses as any additional grant aid would, in present market circumstances, be likely to be absorbed in higher prices.
