Vol. 516 No. 6

Written Answers. - Court Procedures.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

361 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the date he received the new draft comprehensive Circuit Court rules prepared by the Circuit Court Rules Committee; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the current Circuit Court rules, originally made in 1950 and subsequently amended on a variety of occasions, have become practically incomprehensible as a result of the many amendments made; and when he will sign the draft rules and lay them before Dáil Éireann. [9094/00]

I received a draft of the proposed consolidated rules for the Circuit Court in October 1999. Officials of my Department have been in touch with the committee to clarify certain matters contained therein. Every effort is being made to bring this matter to a conclusion and I hope to be in a position to receive signed rules from the committee shortly. I will then sign the rules in the normal way and lay them before the House.
