Vol. 516 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

366 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if his attention has been drawn to the serious financial difficulties affecting a major sports club (details supplied) in Dublin 11 which must cease all of its basketball, badminton and bowls activities in order to survive financially; if he will make a special allocation of funds to enable the club to continue to serve the local community and maintain all of its sporting activities for local youth in view of the fact only 4% of the clubs facilities have been grant aided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8978/00]

I have received representations on behalf of the club in question. However, funding in respect of costs associated with the development of individual sports is now administered by the statutory Irish Sports Council and is dispersed on the basis of allocations to the recognised national governing bodies of sport to assist with the development of the sport.
