Vol. 517 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

246 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 248 of 23 March 2000, the relevance of the inclusion of one local authority housing scheme at the end of paragraph 2 in view of the fact that Tramore has a number of local authority and private housing schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10122/00]

In my reply of 23 March 2000 I referred to a number of factors that the Garda authorities consider relevant for policing purposes in the Tramore sub-district. I have since clarified with the Garda authorities the issue raised by the Deputy. I have been informed that the reference was intended to be to a particular housing scheme which is in the course of development. The expansion in both housing and popu lation in Tramore, of which this scheme is an example, may have future policing implications.

The list as set out in the reply was not meant to be exhaustive, but rather an indication of some of the demands on local policing.
