Vol. 517 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

129 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties for patients availing of services from the north Dublin city hospitals, the waiting lists and the lack of bed accommodation; the plans, if any, he has to address these in the short-term and the proposals to address future needs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9871/00]

As the Deputy will be aware the Eastern Regional Health Authority assumed responsibility for all health service issues in the eastern region with effect from 1 March 2000. A wide range of issues, including waiting lists and the shortage of both acute and non-acute bed accommodation, are under review by the north Dublin hospitals and the ERHA. I expect that this review and its outcome will have a significant positive impact on the provision of services in the eastern region.
