Vol. 517 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Board Appeals.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

100 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of appeals received by the appeals officer in the Western Health Board in the past twelve months, on a monthly basis; the number of appeals dealt with; and the number of appeals allowed and disallowed, including details of the category under appeal, for example, medical card. [10271/00]

The determination of eligibility for health services is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. I, as Minister for Health and Children, do not have a function in the provision of health services, or any resultant appeals procedures, to individuals. As the Deputy's question relates to information on appeals in the Western Health Board, I have asked the chief executive officer of that board to have the matter investigated and to reply directly to you.
