100 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of appeals received by the appeals officer in the Western Health Board in the past twelve months, on a monthly basis; the number of appeals dealt with; and the number of appeals allowed and disallowed, including details of the category under appeal, for example, medical card. The determination of eligibility for health services is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. I, as Minister for Health and Children, do not have a function in the provision of health services, or any resultant appeals procedures, to individuals. As the Deputy's question relates to information on appeals in the Western Health Board, I have asked the chief executive officer of that board to have the matter investigated and to reply directly to you.
