Brian O'Shea

173 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 371 of 28 March 2000, he will provide a place for the person with a resource teacher for pupils with special needs in Tramore from September 2000; if he will consider dual enrolment between St. Joseph's special school, Waterford, and Tramore; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10361/00]

The child referred to by the Deputy is currently enrolled in St. Joseph's Special School, Waterford.

St. Joseph's Special School caters for pupils with mild general learning disability. The most recent psychological assessment available on the child indicates that he is suitably placed in St. Joseph's Special School. I understand that he is making satisfactory progress there. My Department is not aware of any application from the child's school for additional resources to cater for his special needs.
My Department is currently examining the merits of the dual enrolment issue and how and in what circumstances it might be facilitated. However, no decisions have been taken in relation to the matter at this stage.
