Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Asylum Seekers.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

378 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will clarify matters in relation to the possible location of accommodation centres for asylum seekers in Tramore, County Waterford (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10950/00]

My Department has had advertisements placed through the media inviting offers of accommodation suitable for asylum seekers from the commercial sector. Arising from these advertisements, the directorate for asylum support services has entered into contractual agreements for the provision of full board accommodation in hotels, guest houses and hostels.

In accordance with Government policy, the directorate is currently assessing the potential of accommodation offers in all regions throughout the State. A number of properties are being actively pursued. In line with normal practice, I do not propose to release details of these properties until such time as the arrangements in relation to them have been agreed and relevant formalities concluded with the proprietors.
